Wk 5 Current Events in Leadership Leadership Will Change Forever After the Coronavirus Pandemic

Q Class: In the Forbes.com article, Leadership Will Change Forever After the Coronavirus Pandemic, the author, Glenn Llopis (2020) explains how leadership will change permanently after the pandemic. Llopis states, "This is the Time for Courage. Today, in our age of personalization, leadership means being courageous enough to be compassionate, to allow others to influence in their own way, to listen through actions. It’s about being courageous enough to set aside metrics that are no longer relevant, even if that means appearing to fail in the eyes of people who still cling to those metrics. Leadership today is about breaking down barriers and giving people the freedom to create previously unseen opportunities to elevate their own capacity and the capacity of the organization." (Llopis, 2020) Llopis continues, "The limits of standardization remind us that without strategy, change is merely substitution not evolution. Standardization is the act of practicing substitutional thinking while personalization is the act of practicing evolutionary thinking. Especially now that the moment calls for countries and companies the world over to reinvent themselves. This is only possible when we build systems that focus on inclusion and the power of individual capacity." (Llopis, 2020) Llopis touches on changes that are underway in organizations right now, real-time. Leaders are having to be more focused on individual employee needs as well as non-standard approaches to completing tasks and handling developments related to the health crisis. This is forcing organizations to be more employee focused during this time when the needs of employees when returning back to work is paramount. The metrics used to measure performance even 6 months ago may no longer be relevant to the organization. Being flexible during this time of change is critical for leaders as they go through the changes and transitions brought on by this crisis. Class, in light of the comments from Llopis regarding how leadership is having to be more flexible while practicing employee personalization, what changes have you seen within your organizations since returning to work after the pandemic? How has the leadership within your organization used personalization in their approach to dealing with employee needs? What barriers has your leadership taken down in an effort to accommodate employees back in the workplace during this time? Llpois, Glenn. I have seen changes like organizational members wearing masks and hand-gloves in the workplace. There has not been much communication among organizational members especially by coming near each other. There has been maintenance of social distancing by all the organizational members. Even organizational members smoking just outside the premises of the workplace have not opened their masks until they have been required to smoke. There has been washing of hands constantly by all the organizational members. There has been sanitizing of the office premises every day of working in the office. There has been sanitizing before coming to office as well as after leaving office.
